Welcome! I am glad you are here. My name is Caitlin Steeves, PT, DPT and I am The Health and Joy PT. I grew up in Hunterdon County, New Jersey (“New Jersey: Look Before You Laugh!”), where my family and I were all-in on music, dance, and musical theater. (We threw some other sports into the mix but really the soundtrack of our lives revolved around The Music Man, Crazy for You, and several years of Peter Pan) I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to take after high school (“all of them” was not a feasible option), so I attended Smith College in Northampton, MA where I could explore my options and also continue to dance. Before even deciding to pursue my BA in Dance, I attended a class taught by my advisor – “Anatomy for Dancers” (Thank you, Susan Waltner!) – and I realized how much I loved the science behind the movement. Add in a fellow Dance Major who was planning to go to PT school in order to be a PT for dancers, and I thought: “I can do that!”
Many scienc-y prerequisites later, I enrolled in SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Doctorate in Physical Therapy program in Syracuse, NY and obtained my DPT in 2012. Since then I have worked in many settings: acute care in-hospital, assisted-living, home care, and – most recently – the outpatient clinic setting. There are pro’s and con’s to each setting and in the middle of it all my husband and I are raising two amazing kiddos with their own joys, challenges, and activities. I am so excited and nervous for this next chapter of life and career where I hope to share with all of you, dear readers, my experience, knowledge, struggles, and desires surrounding the multi-faceted concepts of “health” and “joy.” This endeavor is a journey with no clear, definitive destination. Join me!
